Whale Beach Clean Up

  • 227 Whale Beach Road Whale Beach, NSW, 2107 Australia (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Unfortunately, we are not able to host a clean up in March, but we are looking forward to seeing everyone in April in Whale beach. We're cleaning up Whale Beach and the grass area. We'll meet on the grass area on the corner of Surf Road and The Strand and we have clean gloves, bags and buckets to lend you, but if you feel that you would rather use your own, that is of course most welcome. We'll clean up the grass area to try and catch the litter before it hits the ocean, as well as cleaning the beach, trying to remove as much plastic, cigarette butts and rubbish as possible.

We're a friendly group of people and everyone is welcome to this family friendly event (just leave political, religious and business messages at home so everyone feel welcome). It's a nice community - make some new friends and do a good deed for the planet at the same time. Send us an email on northernbeachescleanupcrew@gmail.com or message our social media if you are lost. Please invite family and friends and share this event.

We meet at 10am for a briefing. Then we generally collect rubbish until 11.15 and then we bag the rubbish and we go to lunch together (at own cost). Please note, we completely understand if you cannot stay for the whole event. We are just grateful for any help we can get. No booking required. Just show up on the day.

Bilgola Beach Clean Up

Bilgola was our February clean up for 2024. We would love to thank all our wonderful volunteers that came from both our local area as well from places like Parramatta and other areas. We are extremely grateful for each and everyone of you. We would also like to thank the wonderful Roly from Emu Parade Clean Up that treated all volunteers with free coffee. We loved having you onboard Roly, and thank you for everything you do.

Some of the unusual items for this clean up was legs and wheels from a TV stand, an old milk glass bottle, a worm farm, and a street sign. We also found lots of abandoned signs from the Bilgola bend.

Long Reef Clean Up

New Year, new opportunities to do something for our local community, getting to know friendly people of all ages and backgrounds, and making a difference at the same time. Come and join us for our family-friendly January clean up, in Long Reef on the 28th at 10am. We are meeting close to Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club. If driving put that in the GPS.

We have gloves, bags, and buckets, and grabbers. We're trying to remove as much plastic and rubbish as possible before it enters the ocean. Some of us can focus on the bush area and sandy/rocky areas, and others can walk along the edges and even clean up in the water (at own risk). We will clean up until around 12.00 and after that, we will take a group photo, bag the rubbish and head for lunch together (at own cost).

No booking required - just show up on the day - we will be there no matter what weather. We're a friendly group of people, and everyone is welcome to this family friendly event. It's a nice community - make some new friends and do a good deed for the planet at the same time. For everyone to feel welcome, please leave political and religious messages at home - this includes t-shirts with political campaign messages, and we don't allow people handing out flyers at our events.

There is a council carpark, check streets close by as well if it's full or please consider using public transport.

Message us on our social media or send us an email if you are lost. All welcome - the more the merrier. Please invite your friends too!

We pay respect to their Elders, past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge the continuing connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the land, sea, sky, and waterways. Thank you to everyone who came to the Turimetta Beach Clean Up and an extra thank you to our long-term volunteer who turned 7 today and decided to clean up the beach on his birthday. One of the odd items that we found was a bag of chips that had a best-before date of 28th of April 2012. It just really shows how long rubbish is around for. Sad.

South Curl Curl Clean Up

We had our last clean-up of the year - at south Curl Curl. This was a beach that initially looked very clean, but whatever is in the bushes will soon end up on the beach. Maybe not some of the bigger items though. Some of the more unusual finds on this clean up were: four chairs, a chair made from a car seat, a rusty car part, a full Woolworths basket of old rusty car cleaning and maintenance products - and of course lots of food wraps, bottles, cans and remnants of plastic bags.

A huge thank you to all crew members that came and helped clean up south Curl Curl. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work in 2022 - for helping sharing our posts, talking rubbish with your friends, cleaning up, helping us set up, counting, sorting, sitting hours in front of the computer doing admin, taking photos, being a friendly face and for being one of our new friends in 2022. We're looking forward to making more friends in 2023. Do a good deed for the planet and make some new friends at the same time.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along today to the Long Reef cleanup. We couldn't do this without you, so we're forever grateful to each and everyone who comes along to the clean-up events. The beach was pretty clean which is a good thing. Lots of confetti, cigarette butts and general plastic. We couldn't do a sort and count today due to the wind, but nature thanked us by having a stingray showing up close to the boat ramp, some pelicans, and if you walked up to the headland afterwards there were a few whales and dolphins too. Our next clean-up will be posted shortly and we expect that one to be a big one, so we need as many of you as possible to come and help out.

Curl Curl Clean Up

We just want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who came along and helped make Curl Curl a bit cleaner today. More than 13,233 pieces of rubbish were picked up, sorted and counted. Love all the kind people coming together to do a good deed for the planet and making new friends at the same time. The oldest item we found today was a margarine tub with the best-before date of January 1988. Plastic never goes away, it just breaks into smaller and smaller pieces. Let's make this planet a better place by reducing our single-use plastic footprint and inspiring our friends to do the same. Our clean-ups are always the last Sunday of every month at 10 a.m.
