This time it is a donkey in Tennessee that passed away.
"Well I have the results from the vet. She choked to death on a balloon. The string was all the down into her stomach but the bulk of the balloon was stuck in her throat. I wish people wouldn’t release balloons. They end up in places that they shouldn’t and donkeys will eat anything. My little Ninnie died over a memorial balloon someone let go! It was not a very big balloon but rather a small rubber one. Now I will be checking every inch of my property for items like this. I can’t deal with another death. PLEASE DO NOT RELEASE BALOONS TO REMEMBER SOMEONE BY. THEY END UP HURTING OTHERS. I want to say thank you to everyone who has sent me messages and for all the lovely comments. At only 3 months she had me totally wrapped around her little hoof! I will have her ashes back next week. I have ordered a special ceramic donkey from a friend that she is painting to look just like her to put her ashes in." ~ Tracy Trey Franklin #balloon #turtlekiller #balloons #northernbeachescleanupcrew #nbcuc #balloonsblow #beachcleanup #donkey Sweden have a very sophisticated recycling system that allows them to capture materials that can be used again (metals, glass, paper, plastics, etc) and send less than 1% of waste to landfills, and they have many cogeneration plants that incinerate the rest to generate heat and electricity to help run their cities. Go Sweden!

#northernbeachescleanupcrew #NBCUC #beachcleanup #Deewhy #Deewhylagoon #litter #rubbish #door In early 1992 a shipping container travelling from Hong Kong to the USA lost a container during a storm. That container collided with another floating container (it is estimated 1382 are lost at sea each year) releasing 29,000 yellow rubber duckies into the ocean.
The 19,000 ducks that went south have been found on the shores of Australia Indonesia and even Chile. The 10,000 ducks that were caught in northerly currents did a 3 year circuit of the North Pacific Ocean where some ended up in Hawaii and many in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Despite becoming marine debris, oceanographers did learn a lot about invisible ocean currents by following their journeys. Especially interesting was the group of ducks that drifted north through the Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia. Drifting 2km a day in a frozen pack across the Arctic Ocean they were spotted in the Atlantic Ocean 5 years later. Some landed on the east coast of the USA whilst others continued in currents being found in Scotland in 2007, 17 years after they went overboard! They travelled over 27,000 km in tact and not even sun bleached! The ducks highlight just how connected the oceans are and how marine debris can be dropped in one part of the world and end up in another part of the world decades later. That’s a lot of opportunity to cause havoc with marine animals and birds. #northernbeachescleanupcrew #beachcleanup #ducks #litter There is no away.

1. Don't buy them. 2. These pesky fish-shaped soy sauce containers have a habit of hanging around. Can they be recycled? Yes, but this comes with a caveat. Even if properly disposed of, small items like sushi fish can be lost at the recycling plant. This is because the machinery used to sort recyclables has size limits. Only items as large as a business card will go through. Anything smaller ends up in the landfill pile. Put them inside a bigger plastic container, like a bottle or tub. Keep them contained within something else of the same material. This goes for other small things, such as metal lids. Put them in an old tin can and squeeze the can shut so the lids don’t fall out. Remember: like goes with like when it comes to combining materials. #northernbeachescleanupcrew #nbcuc #soyfish #plastic #plasticfree #solstice #recycle #recycling BREAKING NEWS! The NSW state parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of the laws we have been fighting for, enacting a ban on single-use plastics starting next year.
From 1 June 2022, lightweight plastic shopping bags will finally be banned in NSW, the only state who still allows them. Plastic bags are one of the most lethal plastics for ocean wildlife, entangling seabirds and choking turtles who mistake them for jellyfish. From 1 November 2022, the following single-use plastics will also be banned: Cutlery Straws Drink stirrers Polystyrene food / drink containers Cotton buds Microbeads Disposable plates and bowls Incredibly, a last minute amendment to ban plastic plates and bowls was successful - thanks to sustained pressure from ocean lovers! All of your calls and emails added up, convincing politicians to get rid of these difficult to recycle plastics. With our victory, NSW will go from being laggard to leader, with one of the most comprehensive bans on single-use plastics in the country. More information: https://www.dpie.nsw.gov.au/.../phasing-out-single-use... Shared from AMCS #northernbeachescleanupcrew #NBCUC #beachcleanup #plastic #plasticfree #goodness #changes From today all Woolworths stores in Tasmania will allow customers to bring their own container to be filled at the supermarket's deli, meat and seafood counters.
Aimed to reduce the amount of disposable plastic containers and wrapping, the Tasmanian trial follows in the footsteps of a successful pilot at Woolworths' Crows Nest store in Sydney as well as its new West End store in Queensland. All customers have to do is to let the staff member behind the counter know that they wish to use a container. The staff member will then adjust the tare weight to suit the container and fill it to the shopper's preferred amount. Each BYO container that is used will be provided a printed barcode sticker to use at the checkout. To be used, all containers brought by customers to be filled must be clean and in "good condition" and have a sealable lid. Glass or single-use plastic will not be accepted. Only produce that is sold by weight at the deli, meat and seafood counters can be used as part of the program, excluding salads that are sold by volume. Similar trials in NSW and Victoria are expected to be rolled out next year. #northernbeachescleanupcrew #NBCUC #plastic #plasticfree #plasticfreeproduce #woolies #byo #byocontainer This is frustrating and not good enough Coles. Coles has a policy called "Together to Zero Waste" and it states:
"We’re working with industry partners, suppliers and customers to increase food security, reduce waste and overall, conserve our valuable resources. We recognise the role we can play in reducing packaging and food waste." Well, it doesn't look like you're recognising the role you play with passionfruits and their packaging. #northernbeachescleanupcrew #NBCUC #plastic #plasticfree #plasticfreeproduce #Coles #passionfruit David Jones has teamed up with TerraCycle to recycle beauty packaging. Best is to buy products free from plastic but it can be difficult at times, so this is the second best option. Read more about it here: https://www.davidjones.com/beauty-cycle
